To strengthen ties between the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and the media, a landmark interactive session was convened with prominent media figures.
The purpose was to explore avenues of collaboration aimed at fostering peace not only in Ghana but also across the African continent.
Gathering key media stakeholders alongside the leadership of the KAIPTC, this pioneering initiative marked the first-ever engagement of editors and senior media professionals by the Centre.
The primary objective was to familiarize the media with the operations and programmes of the KAIPTC, seeking their support in effectively communicating the centre’s mission and achievements.
Maj. Gen. Richard Addo Gyane, Commandant of the KAIPTC, underscored the significance of the forum in raising awareness among media circles about the centre’s activities.
He lamented the apparent lack of recognition for the KAIPTC within Ghana, despite its prominent reputation across the African region and among international partners.
Reflecting on the centre’s mandate, Maj. Gen. Gyane highlighted its pivotal role in providing training to over 31,000 individuals from diverse African countries and beyond over the past two decades.
These individuals have been equipped with essential skills for peacekeeping, mediation, and conflict resolution, with many alumni assuming leadership positions vital to peace and security in their respective nations.
Furthermore, the forum emphasized the imperative of involving youth in initiatives aimed at combating violence and promoting peace.
In addition to discussing the KAIPTC’s ongoing activities, the forum served as a platform to preview the upcoming Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum (KAPS).
This forthcoming event will convene former African heads of state to deliberate on critical issues pertaining to peace and security on the continent, with the distinguished presence of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, confirmed.
The KAPS is slated for February 28 – 29, 2024.
