The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced that its Students’ Representative Council (SRC) will procure the ‘History of Ashanti’ book for GH₵10,000.
This decision was communicated via the official social media channels of the institution.
The pledge to buy the book was made by SRC President, Yvonne-Nkay.
Authored by the late Asantehene, Nana Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, the book titled ‘History of Ashanti’ was officially launched on February 6, 2024.
Its release comes more than five decades after the demise of Nana Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, who was the 14th ruler of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The autobiography provides valuable insights into his reign from 1931 to 1970 as well as other historic teachings.
The book, edited by Professor Tom McCastie, a distinguished scholar in Asante History affiliated with the Centre of West African Studies at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, is a significant contribution to understand Asanti history and culture.
The launch of the book coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War and the Silver Jubilee celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
