The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has notified the Ghana Police Service of their planned nationwide demonstration against the proposed 15% VAT on domestic electricity consumption.
Although, Cabinet has decided to withdraw the controversial tariff, the union says they have not received any official communique, hence will proceed with their action.
A letter signed by TUC General Secretary, Yaw Baah and addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare noted the protest will take place in all 16 regions.
The VAT on electricity has been criticised by Organised Labour, civil society, and sections of Ghanaian society.
Organised Labour has called for the withdrawal of the tax but government has explained that, the tax was aimed at helping its COVID-19 recovery programme.
