I have what it takes to coach Black Stars, says former Asante Kotoko coach

Former Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars coach, Michael Osei, has expressed interest in the Black Stars coaching job.

There is a search for a new head coach following the dismissal of Chris Hughton in the wake of the disappointing performance at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Ghana, who was aiming to end their 42-year trophy drought suffered early elimination after amassing two points out of a possible nine.

Osei, drawing on his extensive coaching background, which includes leading Ghana’s U23 team alongside coach, Ibrahim Tanko, believes he is well-equipped for the role.

In expressing his interest, Osei stated, “Yes, I have applied for the job because I believe that with everything I’ve learnt, I am capable of coaching the squad,” during an interview with Akoma FM.

Highlighting his experience in nurturing young talents such as Majeed Ashimeru, Ernest Nuamah, and Osman Bukari, who are currently part of the Black Stars setup, Osei emphasized his understanding of Ghanaian culture and his unwavering commitment to winning.

He said, “I’ve been coaching in Ghana for about 12 years, totalling nearly 15 years of coaching experience. Ghana is also my home country, so I understand the culture, have the expertise, and believe now is the time to coach the squad, and I’m always a winner.”

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is actively seeking a seasoned winner with a coaching tenure of over 15 years to fill the void left by Chris Hughton’s departure.

Michael Osei joins Maxwell Konadu as the only two local coaches who have applied for the job.
