The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency, Dr Yaw Twerefour, has hinted that the digitalisation of mortuary facilities in the country is one of his top priorities.
He said if that is done, it will give him full knowledge of the day-to-day running of mortuaries in the country.
Dr Twerefour has stated that due to this agenda, they are going to ensure mortuaries have access to internet connectivity.
He was speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on The Big Agenda on Adom TV.
“In the near future, we intend to digitalise our mortuaries so that, when we are in the office, we can tell how many bodies are in the mortuaries, the families, the cause of death, and other details,’’ Mr Twerefour said.
Outlining the state of mortuaries in the country, the CEO added that, some are in good shape whereas others are in a bad state.
“Ideally, mortuaries should have walls around them, have proper water system, a standby plant, security posts but some mortuaries lack these,” he stated.
As an immediate measure, he said “we are also going to focus on our cemeteries with proper demarcation and give them a facelift to make them look good from the way they are now”.
Dr Twerefour further announced plans by his office to work with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), who are the managers of the cemeteries, to, among other things, provide changing rooms for all workers.
“As we speak, when people go to cemeteries to interact with workers to help them find a place to bury a relative, there is no place for them to sit, which I believe is not the best. That’s why I’m proposing that every cemetery should have an office. We will also keep records of their operations,” he added.
