A prominent Urologist, Dr. Awuku Asabre, has urged men in Ghana to prioritise their health by promptly screening for prostate cancer.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday, he revealed that, prostate cancer claims approximately 800 lives in Ghana annually, with around 1,000 new diagnoses each year.

Despite these alarming statistics, the disease often goes unnoticed, but Dr. Asabre stressed the need for a collective effort to combat this menace.

“Men’s health has long been neglected and overlooked. We are urging men to unite and confront the injustice of prostate cancer, which has been underrepresented in the country’s healthcare agenda” he said.

Dr. Asabre identified frequent urination, back pain, and blood in the urine as common symptoms, adding that these signs indicate a potential spread of the disease.

Stressing the importance of early detection, he urged men not to wait until symptoms become severe but to seek immediate medical attention.
