‘You have to be a fisherman’s girlfriend to be able to purchase his catch’

-

“Before a girl will be able to buy fish from a canoe unless she exchanges meat with fish.

“Unless you are the girlfriend, you will never get fish to buy in any canoe.”

These were the words of the President of the National Fish Processors and Traders Association, Regina Solomon, who was narrating the sort of abuse women go through in the fishing sector.

She was speaking at the durbar to commemorate 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence organised by USAID in Keta in the Volta Region.
