Man hit by train after ‘trying to pull stranger onto tracks’

-

A man hit by a train earlier today has been arrested after it is believed he attempted to pull a woman onto the tracks with him.

British Transport Police rushed to the scene at Kings Cross station in central London at 1.26pm after the serious incident had been reported.

They said they believe the man and woman were complete strangers. The woman was thankfully unharmed, but understandably shaken up.

The man, who survived being hit by the train, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries.

Kings Cross station was temporarily evacuated as a result.

Emma Newbould, who was evacuated at station earlier today, told MyLondon: “I was on the Tube to Uxbridge which pulled into King’s Cross at 1.30pm. […] The doors closed and we didn’t move.

“Then suddenly, the platform was deserted. More and more police arrived and so did paramedics. They were all walking along the platform towards the back of the train.

“When the train was evacuated everyone had to walk through the train to the front, and up and out. They closed the platforms and announcements were being made that everyone had to move away from the barriers down to the Hammersmith & City line.

“Outside, more and more police and paramedics arrived. In King’s Cross I saw paramedics with what looked like hard hats on. I just kept thinking, ‘Something bad’s happened.’

“They kept saying there was an incident and couldn’t disclose any details of the nature of it. They also formed a wall so you couldn’t see down the platform.”

At the time of the incident, emergency services rushed to the scene and police officers were pictured gathering on the London Underground platform, before passengers were evacuated.

The British Transport Police told MyLondon: “Any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police are asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 266 of 29/08/22. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
