A woman was mauled to death by two pit bulls days after her mum warned her to stop petsitting the dogs, it has been reported.
Trena Peed, 46, was heard crying out for help after letting the two dogs outside her home in Greensboro, North Carolina on Thursday morning.
One neighbour told a 911 call handler that it was dark and “all they could hear was yelling” while the dogs attacked her, reported WGHP.
Trena’s mother, Helena Harris, had apparently expressed concerns about the pit bulls two days previously.
She told WFMY News 2: “I understand it was not intentional but I just talked to my daughter on Tuesday and I told her you need to get (those) dogs out of your house.”
One of Trena’s sons was reportedly asleep at the time of the attack and woke up to find out his mum had died.
Police shot one of the dogs and the other is being held by the Guilford County Animal Services.
No charges have yet been made and enquiries are ongoing to identify the pets’ owners, it was reported on Friday.
Tributes were paid to Trena, who had recently lost two of her sons in car accidents two years apart, on a GoFundMe page set up by her daughter.
Waynesha Peed wrote: “Early this morning, my mom was tragically taken away from us by a vicious attack from dogs.
“My mom has always been a true example of strength, love, and determination. My siblings, grandmother, family, & I are heartbroken at her sudden passing.
“She has endured and overcame so much, most recently losing two of her sons two years apart, both by tragic car accidents.
“By her faith, she always had a smile on her face that could light up any room, loved to laugh, cook, enjoy life and had a heart of gold.”
The online fundraiser helping to make arrangements for Trena’s homegoing service has received more than $17,600 (£14,600) at the time of writing.

Many US states have banned pit bulls following attacks on humans that have resulted in serious injury and death.
In the 10 years between 2009 and 2018, pit bulls killed or maimed 3,569 people in the USA and Canada, according to a report.
They were responsible for 78 per cent of fatal dog attacks on Americans in 2015.
