Telecom giant MTN says their vision for the group is to lead the delivery of a new digital world by delivering a new digital revolution to Ghanaians.
Speaking to the media at the editors forum held in Ho, the cooperate services executive, Cynthia Lumor said the aim is to make sure the network is robust enough to carry needs and demands and that MTN will continue to invest in the network in 2017.
According to her, so far 475 4g size has been deployed to all regions and some key districts and 197 4g size with a lot more fiber in 2017.
She said, apart from participating in fiber rollout in the eastern corridor, they are also upgrading existing services to ensure that the demands that comes along with the use of digital solution is supported by the network.
Mrs Lumor also said they are also looking at using solar energy to feed areas without electricity to serve underserve areas so as to enjoy the network in rural telephony.
On MTN’s Social responsibility initiatives in the Volta region, Mrs Lumor indicated that, about 16 social intervention projects targeted at over 300,000 people would be undertaken in 2017.
She said, MTN has collaborated with GIFEC, a governmental initiative, to provide mobile communications network at places that have none. As of last year, the telecommunication giant paid GH₵ 1.1 Billion (USD 277,363,950) to government comprising GH 713 million to GRA, GH₵ 51.8 million to NCA/GIFEC, GH₵ 258 million NCA (4G LTE) and GH₵ 85 million SSNIT.
According to the cooperate executive, In terms of profit gained in the last year, the company generated GH₵ 2.77 Billion which she said is usually dispersed in aiding the Ghanaian economy in the form of paying taxes and undertaking their Corporate Social Responsibility and Investment.
