Win the AFCON before you quit foot ball – Badu tell Gyan

-

Black Stars and Udinese Calcio midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has entreat Asamoah Gyan to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the country before he retires from football.

The Black Stars have come close of winning the trophy but their effort have proven futile. In 2010 in Angola, Egypt defeated the Black Stars by a lone goal to nothing.

After a flamboyant display in the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, the Black Stars lost 9-8 on penalties shoot out to the Elephant of Côte d’Ivoire

The Black Stars last tasted glory in the continent’s football showpiece in 1982 when they defeated host nation Libya 7-6 on penalties.

However, Badu who has played alongside Gyan several times has called on the former Sunderland striker to break the country’s 35 years trophy-less jinx before he quit football.

“Gyan has been a wonderful leader, he is great and has done a lot for the national team,” Badu said on GHone.

“For now he is the all-time top scorer and just recently he was able to score his 50th goal which is a very wonderful achievement.”

“I I just hope he wins the Nations Cup title with the Black Stars to crown his achievement. I will be happy if he leads the team to win the trophy.” He added.

Gyan scored his 50th goal for the country in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Ethiopia at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
