Death sentence for kidnappers of Takoradi Girls – Court rules [video]

Two persons arrested in connection with the kidnapping and deaths of four girls in Takoradi have been convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

The suspects; Samuel Udeotuk Wills and John Oji were charged for kidnapping and murdering Ruth Abakah, 19; Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21; Ruth Love Quayson,18 and Priscilla Koranchie, 15 were captured at Kansawurodo, Butumagyebu, Nkroful Junction all in Sekondi-Takoradi of the Western Region.

The two pleaded not guilty to eight counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

Justice Agyei Frimpong who reminded the counsel of the two convicts of their right to appeal within a 30-day window, gave the verdict after close to three hours sitting.

But there was mixed reaction to the judge’s pronouncement. Whilst some were satisfied with it, other relatives were still in denial.

A concerned mother who was at the High Court, Josephine Amo in an interview expressed satisfaction with the judgment.

“If they will really abide by what they are saying, then I am pleased with it,” she told the media after the proceedings.

However, one of the victim’s relative, Francis Bentum said unconcerned about the judgment pronounced by the court.

According to him, his child is not dead since the former Criminal Investigation Department boss, Tiwa Maame Yaa Addo Dankwah assured them that their daughters are still alive.

He accused the Police of conjuring the DNA report that confirms the death of victims in order to clear the case from their desk.
