The importance of water

While we have always been told to have our meals at the right time, there are no such clear instructions when it comes to drinking water. Whenever we feel thirsty, we automatically pour ourselves a glass of water. But what if we told you that this is not true?

Yes, there is indeed a particular time of the day when you should avoid drinking water and that is right before going to bed. It is the only time of the day when you should skip it if you can and the reason is quite logical.

02/5Water: The necessity of life

Every living organism on the Earth needs water to survive. Without water, there will be no trace of life. About 60 per cent of the human body is made of water. It is present in every cell, tissue and organ. It helps to maintain our body temperature, lubricates our joints, assists body cells to grow and flushes out the toxins.

If you do not drink enough water throughout the day, then you might feel weak, experience headache and other health concerns.

03/5Why drinking water before going to bed is not a good idea

Drinking water right before going to bed can disturb your sleep cycle. It can increase your rounds to the bathroom at night for urination.

In general, our urine output decreases at night, which allows us to sleep peacefully for five to seven hours. If you will have a glass or two of water before bedtime you might have the urge to pee multiple times at night.

Disrupted sleep can lead to mood swing, irritation, high blood pressure, lack of concentration and emotional eating during the following day. As per a study, adults above 45 years of age who slept fewer than six hours at night were more pron of a stroke.

04/5Benefits of drinking water at night

Drinking one or two glass of water at night after having your dinner is quite good for health in multiple ways. There is nothing better than a warm glass of water after having a heavy meal or unhealthy food. Water acts as a natural cleaner and helps to remove toxins from the body. It accelerates the digestion process and keeps constipation at bay.

05/5The right time to drink water

Drinking enough water is always good for health, but try not to go overboard with it as it has repercussions as well. Try to drink at least 2 litres of water daily. As far as timing is concerned, avoid having a glass of water right before going to bed. You can have it 30 minutes before you hit the sheet for a sound and good quality sleep.
