The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has announced the delivery of a set of twins from an elderly couple.
The hospital shared the good news on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Taking to its official page on the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, the hospital gave more details about the new parents and the birth of the twins.
LUTH explained that the mother of the twins is a 68-year-old woman. According to the medical facility, the woman got pregnant for the first time and she was successfully delivered of her twin children.
The hospital noted that the new mother got pregnant through In Vitro Fertilisation popularly called IVF.
LUTH said that she was delivered through an elective cesarean section at 37 weeks on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
“The IVF and embryo transfer were done at an outside facility. She was thereafter referred to LUTH at early gestation and subsequently managed till term. This is the first in LUTH, Nigeria, and Africa! Mother and babies are doing well,” LUTH said.
