Coronavirus hospital patient writes emotional message on isolation room window

-

A man who was taken to hospital and put on life-support with coronavirus battled back and left a touching message for medical staff on the window of his isolation room.

Hospital staff used the one window in the door of the room where Nic Brown was being treated to give him messages by writing on the glass, which included the inspirational note ‘we will get you home’.

As Nic battled back and recovered, he used the window one last time to leave his own uplifting message after he was thankfully discharged from the medical intensive care unit.

After the 38-year-old began to experience symptoms similar to the flu, his health continued to decline and he was taken to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, US, and placed in intensive care.

He was was put on life-support and needed a ventilator – and at one point hospital staff were forced to discuss end-of-life options with his wife.

Each day doctors and nurses wrote goals for Nic on the glass as he slowly regained his strength and began to recover from COVID-19.

Nic, who described the people who had helped him as the most ‘selfless’ he had ever encountered, asked one nurse to help him leave his own message as he prepared to return home.

Scrawled on the glass, he said: “This window has been the most impactful window in my life. On days when I watched you work hard to keep me and others alive, unable to thank you for the time that you poured into me; although I will probably never get the chance to pour that same love and support into you, I want you to know that I think you all are rockstars.

“I watched some of you have good nights and some bad nights but what was consistent every night was that you care for people.

“Today I leave this ICU a changed person, hopefully for the better, not only because of your medical healing, God’s direction and guidance, but with the fact of knowing that there are such wonderful people dedicated to the care and concern of others. God bless each of you.”

The image was shared by the clinic on Instagram, with the caption: “To our caregivers, you uplift and inspire us all.”

It gained more than 21,000 likes as people wrote their own outpouring of gratitude to the work of those battling to help others.
