Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has described the conduct of the seven expelled female students of Ejisuman Senior High School in a video gone viral on social media as bizarre and unfortunate.
Although he has not had the opportunity to watch the video, Prof. Opoku-Amankwah per what he had been told by reliable sources close to him, he believes such wanton misconduct which has brought untold shame to the school shouldn’t be encouraged.

“In some cultures if we had seen this, it wouldn’t have been news for us. But in our culture things of this nature are something that we all abhor. For them to record something as indecent as this and put them out there is very unfortunate,” he told Joy News.
He said every student ought to know that once they are in an institution, they are supposed to go by the rules and regulations of the institution.

“In the first place they were not supposed to take phones to school, so they have flouted the rules and regulations of the school and GES,” he opined.
Professor Opoku-Amankwa however, noted that though the students have been de-boardenized, they still remain students of the school and will be offered help in the form counseling.

To the GES Director-General, bringing up a child is not the sole responsibility of the school but that of parents as well.
This notwithstanding, he said the GES will soon release a statement on the matter.
The seven final year female students were expelled after authorities found them guilty of the possession of mobile phones which is prohibited in basic and senior high schools and for “intentionally uploading a video on social media where unprintable words that border on sex were spewed out.”
