The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has claimed in a press conference Monday afternoon that evidence available to them points to the fact that, the former President was the supposed “Government Official 1” named in the United Kingdom High Court in London.

We all know Mr Mahama hates answering questions on corruption but answer he must because at this moment all fingers points to him, the NPP Director of Communications, Yaw Boaben Asamoa stated in a press conference in Accra Monday.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has mounted a spirited defense for Mahama administration which acquired three Airbus C295 planes for the Ghana Armed Forces between 2011 and 2015.

This comes after a UK court documents said between 2009 and 2015, some top Ghanaian officials allegedly received bribes from Airbus, one of the biggest aircraft manufacturers in the world, to grant the company business favour.

Although no name has been mentioned, former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has vehemently denied the allegation describing the judgement as misleading.

But the NPP is certain former President John Mahama cannot exonerate himself from this Airbus corruption scandal.

“In the face of these facts, it is very necessary for president Mahama to come out and be heard publicly. He cannot continue to hide behind his party members including a former Attorney General” he stressed.

The NPP Director of Communications said he is not surprised as the silence of Mr. Mahama when it comes to corruption.

“Of course, we are all aware that he hates answering questions on corruption but the answer he must because at this moment all fingers point to him and one of his brothers” he stated

Mr. Boaben Asamoa said the Airbus scandal has given more credence to the corruption tag on the NDC flagbearer which is like an albatross around his neck thus he[Mahama] is not fit to run for the presidency.
