The leadership of Ghana Trainee Teachers says it welcomes former President John Mahama’s decision to cancel licensure examination in 2021 if re-elected in the 2020 elections.
According to them, they believe the examination was instituted purposely to frustrate the processes leading to their employment after school.
“We appreciate and consider President Mahama’s declaration on the cancellation of the Licensure as a huge relief to trainee teachers in Ghana, and pray his office to consider restoring automatic postings of teachers when re-elected,” it said.

The group in a statement expressed worry over the massive failures recorded since the beginning of the licensure examination.
“Licensure Examination has witnessed 14, 976 so far : 7,423 failed in the first ever licensure examination which was conducted in September 2018, and just yesterday 7,553 were recorded to have failed in the recent examination which was conducted in September, 2019,” it lamented.
The group further said trainee teachers, who have successfully passed the licensure exam and are due for employment, are being told by the National Teaching Council to undergo another exam before recruitment.
