Why 13 political parties are backing EC’s move for new voter’s register [Listen]

-

A Coalition of some 13 political parties have explained their support for the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to obtain a new biometric voter system.

Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) flagbearer, Kofi Akpaloo, who spoke to Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on the issue said they find the EC’s argument of an overboated register tenable.

According to Mr Akpaloo, the EC has made a solid case for a new register in terms of cost, time and credibility hence their support to enable it deliver a better-organized election than before.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of CSOs for Good Governance had also held a forum to push its argument that the EC didn’t need a new register to successfully organise this year’s general elections.

This position is, however at variance with the 13 political parties who say the EC’s argument of cost effectiveness, time and credibility made the proposal prudent.

Below is the list of the 13 political parties:

Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)

People’s National Convention (PNC)

National Democratic Party (NDP)

United People’s Party (UPP)
