Police call for identification of victims in Konongo Accident [Listen]

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is calling on the public to help identify victims of the Konongo-Odumase accident involving an OA and VVIP bus on the Konongo-Kumasi Highway.

Supt Emmanuel Adu Boahen of the Ashanti regional Motor, Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), who made the call, said the driver of the VVIP has been identified and wants relatives of persons travelling on the Konongo-Kumasi highway to contact the Konogo regional MTTD for identification.

He said investigations have commenced to ascertain the real cause of the accident which has so far claimed seven lives.

“We will continue with the investigations to determine what caused the accident. But I want to reach out to Ghanaians whose relatives have told them they are travelling on that stretch and have not reached home, to contact us to find out whether any relative has been trapped here or have been admitted at the hospital,” he told Joy News.

Seven people have been confirmed dead in an accident involving an OA and VVIP bus on the Konongo-Kumasi Highway on Thursday, December 26.

According to the Police, the Kumasi bound OA bus, with registration number GT4913-14 made a wrongful overtaking, resulting in a head-on collision with the Accra bound VVIP bus, with registration number GT5052-18.

Supt Boahen said 47 people have so far been admitted at the various hospitals and about five of them have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

He said bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Yawkwei Government Hospital.
