Govt doesn’t have capacity to fix all roads – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says despite announcing that 2020 would be a year for road construction the government does not have the capacity to fix all the roads.

According to him, the government will give a good fist to fix most of the deplorable roads which have become a major challenge and a worry to many Ghanaians.

“We have a major burden to bring the roads up to scratch but we don’t have all the money to fix the roads and that is the reality we must all accept. We have spent a lot of money and this year alone we have spent over GH¢2 billion in paying contractors but I am confident the 2020 year of roads will be achieved,” he said confidently.

“Next year is the year we have dubbed the year of roads. Roads today are a major item in the discourse of our country and I think properly so the significance in our lives is obvious, convenience and a major tool of expansion in opening up the country making transport of goods and service and people much easier,” he said.

According to the President, all his tour around Ghana had been met with cries over the deplorable nature of roads in Ghana.

“I was verbally slapped by my opponent that I was sleeping at the back of my car while travelling on the roads and didn’t see the works but when I came into power, what I have seen confirms National Democratic Congress’ unprecedented infrastructure claim does not exist in reality but only in the green book,” he added.
