The vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday cut the sod for work to begin on the 54kM Jasikan-Dodo pepesu road in the Oti region.
The sod cutting ceremony forms part of government’s efforts to fix the deplorable Eastern Corridor roads.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, Dr Bawumia reiterated government’s commitment in providing infrastructure for the people of Oti to help better their lives.
He also expressed worry over the recent complaints from the minority MPs in parliament over neglect of Volta roads.
Nana Owusu Yeboa, the Oti Regional minister stated the road will have the qualities good roads posses.

The government of Ghana through the republic of China, has secured funding through the Sinohydro master agreement towards the cost of construction of part the Eastern corridor road project.
The funding would be use to construct the 56.4km stretch of road from Jasikan to Dodo Pepesu.

Meanwhile, President of powerchina West and Central Africa Mr Zhang Nianmu expressed his gratitude to the chiefs,and the people of Oti Region and assured the smoothness of the project.
The paramount of Buem-Jasikan traditional area, Nana Aburam Akpandja V also commended government efforts towards the rehabilitation and the construction of Jasikan Dodo-pepesu which has been in the deplorable state for many years.
The chief on behalf of his people appealed to government to work complete the work within the scheduled timeline.
