UEW to elect Pro-VC on Thursday after dismissal of court case

-

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has scheduled its Pro-Vice Chancellor election for Thursday, November 21, 2019, following the dismissal of a court case challenging the appointment.

A Winneba High Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Janapare Bartels Kodwo, on Monday dismissed a suit challenging the Vice-Chancellor’s power to nominate three candidates to compete for the Pro-Vice Chancellor position.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, monitored by Adomoline.com, the Public Relations Officer for the University, Ernest Azutiga, described the dismissal of the court case as a vindication for the university.

“The notice of the election has been announced; come Thursday 21st November, we will have the election. We feel vindicated. It appears that over the years there have been some orchestrated plans to try to frustrate this administration by making sure that whatever has been planned does not come on,” he said.

He said those who initiated the process were very aware that the case will not see the light of day and only sought to buy time.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s election was earlier scheduled for June 13, 2019, but was postponed a day before the election, after a lecturer of the university, Dr Kaakyire Duku Frimpong filed a lawsuit against the institution.
