The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe says voting against the proposed amendment of Article 55 (3) of the 1992 Constitution which will make local government elections partisan qualifies one to be an ‘animal’.
The comments of Abronye DC as he is popularly known in the political circles comes after the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] urged its supporters to vote ‘No’ in the December referendum.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-Based Neat FM, Abronye DC who was unhappy with the opposition’s stance explained what a ‘YES’ and ‘NO’ in the referendum vote in the referendum means to him.

“In this referendum, the ‘Yes’ stands for human and ‘No’ stands for goat; So it’s up to Ghanaians to decide,” he said.
The referendum has become necessary because Article 55 is an entrenched provision of the Constitution and therefore can only be amended through a referendum.
Government wants Ghanaians to back the proposed amendment through a vote but the National House of Chiefs like the opposition National Democratic Congress and the Chamber for Local Governance is against it.
At a press conference on Tuesday, NDC’s Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the local government system should remain non-partisan and that individuals should contest the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections on their own merit.
“We, therefore, decided to campaign for a ‘NO’ vote at the referendum and to urge all Ghanaians to vote ‘NO’ at the referendum,” he declared.
