Video: SWAT team ‘disables’ two men as over 70 residents flee Ankwaso town

Two people have reportedly been shot during a confrontation between the police and the people of Ankwaso in the Amanfi Central District of the Western Region.

The two have been referred and admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Police Commander for Sefwi Bekwai District, Superintendent Isaac Baah, confirmed the incident, saying the confrontation between the police and the residents of Ankwaso followed a chieftaincy dispute which was currently in court.

According to Supt. Isaac Baah, the court ruled for the enstoolment of a new chief, ousting the old chief, a decision which led to the riot in the area.

Speaking about how the two men got shot, Supt. Isaac Baah said the two attempted to shoot the new chief but the police retaliated and shot at them.

“One of the men attempted to fire a third bullet at the new chief but the Specialized Training Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team saw him and retaliated by shooting him in the shoulder,” he said. 

He added that one of the men was in a critical condition and has been referred to the KATH for attention.

Supt. Baah also confirmed reports that about 70 percent of people in the town have fled the town for fear of being killed and assured that his outfit is doing its best in maintaining law and order in the town.
