Police at Sefwi Bekwai in the Western region are cursing their stars after seizing bush meat from some hunters.

The security officers were acting on the directive of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission who announced a ban on hunting and capturing of wild animals from August 1 to December 1, 2019.

The move was part of measures to curb the decline of wildlife resources in the country and offer respite for the animals during their breeding period.

But, the farmers caught after killing a deer challenged the police for denying them their daily bread.

Angered by their conduct, the police officers decided to keep them in the police station to serve as punishment.

Pained by the action taken by the police, the farmers reportedly invoked dreaded deities on them for stealing their deer.

Sefwi Bekwai Police Commander, Superintendent Isaac Baah expressed shock at the conduct of the hunters.

He said the police only took the deer as evidence and processed them for court but they have decided to drop the case and rather educate them.

Supt. Baah said they want the hunters to come for their meat which was neatly put in a refrigerator.

Meanwhile, the hunters have vowed not to accept the meat after invoking the curses.

They said the ancestors will deal with anyone who touches or eats the meat.
