Local level election should be based on popular participation – Kabila

-

James Kwabena Bomfeh, Acting Convention People’s Party (CPP) General Secretary is of the view that local government and district level elections should be based on popular participation.

According to him, it is high time political parties disassociate themselves from local level elections and that laws that infringe on one’s right to participate freely at the local level should be amended.

“The constitutional reform committee has stated that we should properly define what decentralisation is. From 2008 till now my party, together with other political parties, have emphasised on the need to make the district level elections be on the basis of popular participation.

“Popular participation means that no one should be withheld to participate freely at the local level, if that is the case any law that undermines one’s freedom to participate  freely should be amended,” he told Accra-based Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
