Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal Deen Abdul, has explained how the $600 million loan will be used to revamp the cocoa sector.
According to him, cocoa has been the backbone of the Ghanaian economy, hence the need to invest more in it.
“The cocoa sector has been the backbone of our economy before and after independence so lets not take it for a granted. It is not the only sector but we have to ensure that we take the necessary steps to ensure the sector doesn’t take a nosedive,” he said on UTV.

He added that the initiative is to increase production capacity and pledged government’s support for cocoa farmers.
“This is because we have noticed some cocoa farmers are really struggling to maintain their farms so to aid in production, we have identified these farmers and we are going to use part of the loan to support them,” he said.
