The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has justified its decision to request for public inputs in the drafting of its manifesto ahead of the 2020 general election.
The move, according to the Deputy General Secretary in-charge of Operations, Peter Boamah Otokunor, is to develop a ‘People’s Manifesto’ that speaks to the direct needs and concerns of the citizenry.

“We are taking the people participation to another level. It is to give meaning to our social democratic philosophy which is solidarity, inclusiveness and mass participation,” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Monday.
The NDC is hoping to get enough inputs from the public to produce a problem-solving manifesto to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party in 2020.

The party has, therefore, requested for Policy Memoranda from the general public, Civil Society Organisations, Trade Unions, Associations and other identifiable groups in the country.
This opportunity given to the grassroots, Mr Otokunor explained, is because the NDC sees “every single Ghanaian as a partner in the rescue mission.
“We always use common people for our manifesto since power resides in the people. NDC will never underestimate the intelligence of the ordinary people,” he stressed.

Mr Otokunor said the Manifesto Committee will hold consultative meeting in all 16 regions, engage civil society groups and other interest groups to ensure the NDC does not come out with utopian promises.
