Govt did not cook up fraud allegation against PDS – Oppong Nkrumah

-

Government, through the Ministry of Information, has dismissed allegations it cooked up fraud to terminate the Power Distribution Services (PDS) concession agreement.

According to the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the motive of government in the concession had been to ensure efficiency.

“Government has not been up to any machination; the intent has been to ensure efficiency in the Electricity Company of Ghana turnaround programme and the performance of the broader compact all along.”

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday to set records straight on the PDS concession saga, Mr Nkrumah maintained that the concessionaire failed to meet a material and fundamental term of the concession agreement.

“Is there something wrong with switching from 80/20 to 49/51 absolutely not, the government holds the view that in transactions of this nature Ghana and Ghanaians should be given an opportunity to get a deep hand the stake as much as possible,” he said.
