The fate of over 1,000 graduates of Ken Hammer Senior High School (SHS) at Goaso in the Ahafo Region hangs in balance after their examination results were withheld by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC).
This has put the candidates, who are poised to further their education, in a dilemma, as majority of them have gained admission into tertiary institutions.
According to reports, WAEC released 2019 results of the students after meeting school authorities about an alleged malpractice.
However, weeks after the students had applied with the results and gained admission to various tertiary institutions across the country, the examination body has cancelled their core Mathematics paper rendering the results null and void.
Some of the affected candidates expressed frustration about the development. They fear the changes will have a negative impact on their university education.
Sharing his frustration on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Tuesday, headmaster of Ken Hammer SHS, Emmanuel Abubilla, said WAEC had been very unfair to them.
He explained that, when they invited the students for questioning over the examination malpractice, they did not give them any feedback.
“Till date, WAEC has not written officially to us explaining the reason for cancelling the Maths paper. I’m very disturbed because students and parents are giving me pressure,” he said.
Mr Abubilla appealed to authorities at WAEC to take steps to address the issues to give the students in tertiary institutions the peace of mind to learn.
