Akufo-Addo gov’t setting Ghana up against USA as gov’t conduct impugns US integrity – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the government of trying to impugn the integrity of the United States of America (USA) government through what it called its underhand dealings with Meralco, thereby generating mistrust between both governments.

The NDC said it had “taken note of Ken Ofori Atta’s statement in his termination letter in the Public domain to the effect that the American Government has breached an agreement reached with President Akufo-Addo”.

“We do not know the full facts of this accusation which seeks to impugn the integrity of the American government and hope the US authorities will respond appropriately for all to make a judgement,” the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, stated at a press conference organised at party’s headquarters on Monday.

The party has, therefore, demanded to know the full content of the said Implementation plan which was submitted by the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to the government, in a meeting between President Akuffo Addo and the CEO of MCC.

The NDC also accused President Akuffo-Addo of employing dubious means to appropriate the 51% local shareholding in the ECG concession to himself and his “cabal of friends and family”.

“It is these underhand dealings that have generated mistrust between the US government on the one hand and the Ghanaian government on the other thereby jeopardizing the whole Power Compact,” the party said.
