The Medical and Dental Council has raised concerns about the decision by the Accra Circuit Court Four last Tuesday to acquit Dr Dominic Kwame Obeng-Andoh, the Proprietor of the Obengfo Hospital.
According to the Registrar of the Council, Dr Elvis Kwasi Atikpui, the embattled doctor is an unregistered practitioner operating an unlicensed health facility, and therefore could not fathom why the court should set him free.

He indicated that the Council had written for the details of the ruling where the Council’s Board will take the decision and direct the way forward.
“We have written for the details of the ruling and everything and then we will put them before the Board who will take a decision on Dr Obeng-Andoh, [popularly known as Dr Obengfo], very soon. We don’t understand why the court should set him free when we have details that he is an unregistered practitioner,” he told Accra based Neat FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.

But, Dr Atikpui said Dr Obeng-Andoh is not a member in good standing and cannot practice.

He said the Council is doing its job according to the provisions in the law and not interested in individuals. He added that the Council will not hesitate to take on anyone who intends to go against the provisions of the law.
In reaction, Dr Obengfo said it is really surprising the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council could express hatred towards him for the past 20 years to the extent of taking him to court.
