Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed delight over a protest march that forced an apology from his party over unsavoury comments made by a Regional Executive.
“I’m glad the Okyeman citizenry bared its teeth enough to elicit an apology from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch responsible,” the former President wrote on Twitter.
Kwame Zu, Ashanti Regional executive of the NDC reportedly said last Thursday that the people of Kyebi competed with animals for water until former President John Mahama provided a source of water for the residents.

The comments were described as an insult to the people of Akyem Abuakwa, spiking various calls for an apology and later a mammoth demonstration against the biggest opposition party.
The NDC founder also condemned the youth groups who have threatened former President John Dramani Mahama over the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II brouhaha.
“It is utterly inappropriate for a youth group, and other politically blinded persons” to have insulted the former President,” Mr Rawlings opined.

He also urged Mr Mahama to settle his difference with the revered Ashanti king, to ensure peace and tranquility.
“Fellow citizens, when the dust settles on the issue of President Mahama and Otumfuo, I hope we finally recognise how utterly inappropriate it is for a youth group and other politically blinded persons to send threats to a former president of the nation,” he said.

Let’s hope our party can curb the use of strong language by some in their political discourse. I’m glad the Okyeman citizenry bared its teeth enough to elicit an apology from the NDC branch responsible.

The genuine NDC borne out of the AFRC/PNDC does not disrespect people. NDC stands for natural justice, discipline and respect. Let’s not sway from these ideals.
