Audio: Sacking of staff for dabbling in politics justified- Local Govt Service

-

Head of the Local Government Service has mounted a strong defence following the interdiction of three of its staff members for their participation in the recent parliamentary primaries held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr Nana Ato Arthur says their duty as local government service workers is to serve the government and not be involved in partisan politics.

“We are not doing partisan politics in our service. Our duty is to serve the government and not do politics and so if they claim we sacked them because they are NDC staff, then that’s false. We dealing with them according to what the constitution says,” he said on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem‘ programme, Monday.

Justifying the decision to sack them, Dr Arthur said their participation in the primaries breached the neutrality clauses which are required of them.

“Their decision is in contravention of the Local Government Service Code of Conduct particularly, Canon (1): ‘the Principle of Anonymity and Permanence’ which states that ’Officers and staff of the Local Government Service shall serve the State with neutrality and anonymity in the national and local government process’,”.
