Asawase NDC members to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in 2020

Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region are threatening to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in the 2020 elections.

They claim the imposition of incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency, Muntaka Mubarak is a recipe for disaster.

Leader of the aggrieved NDC members at Asawase, Shafiu Ibrahim revealed this after the NDC named Mr Mubarak as the sole candidate for their upcoming primary in the constituency.

Their preferred candidate, Masawudu Mubarick, was disqualified by the party’s vetting committee. Though he filed a petition, a committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho found him guilty.

Mr Mubarak, who is also the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, will now go unopposed.

This decision reached by the NDC, Mr Ibrahim said will affect the electoral fortunes of the NDC in the Ashanti region.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Wednesday, the NDC man said they cannot market Mr Mubarak in 2020.

“We have a big problem now because Muntaka is not making the party attractive to the youth. I don’t hate him but I hate his politics,” he stated.

He said they have decided to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama as NDC presidential candidate, and vote for any other person to become their MP.

“We will campaign vigorously against NDC in 2020 if Muntaka is made our candidate. He is not a winnable candidate,” he added.
