Former Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman, Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong, has endorsed the Normalisation Committee’s proposal of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) instead of General Secretary to oversee the day-to-day administration of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, reacting to the proposed status by the Normalisation Committee on Asempa FM, said the attempt by the interim body is in the right direction since it will eradicate absolute power and any corrupt act by the president or the chairman.

According to him, with the new proposal, it means the CEO will not be appointed by the president or the chairman but rather the Board and he/she will be accountable to all the Board members and not the president.
“I think my main concern will be the Chief Executive replacing the General Secretary; I think with that aspect, they are moving more into corporate structure, which I will support,” he told Kwadwo Mensah Moshosho.
“I think they are trying to separate the role of the CEO from the chairman’s role as we have been seeing in many private companies to prevent absolute power and corruption.
“If you infuse so much power in the so-called president now to be called chairman, then you are saying that there is an executive chairman so the person becomes all-in-all which I don’t support.

“Whether the name is Secretary General or CEO, I think the most important is the role and the separation of powers, the substance will be of roles and powers so that the person who becomes the chief administrator or the executive will be appointed by the entire Board but not the president of the association.
“It means the proposed structure will also limit the powers of the chairman or the president and I think that check and balance will help,” he added.
There have been rumours that the government is planning to bring Mr Sarpong as candidate to be elected as the next GFA president but the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation boss has revealed he is not and will never be interested in that position.
The GFA Congress to deliberate on the proposed statutes will take place on Thursday, September 5.
