Audio: You still remain ostracised – Chiefs to NDC 2020 candidate Sanja Nanja

Despite the fact that National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Sanja Nanja, who was barred from contesting parliamentary elections in the area, won the party’s primary on Saturday with 947 votes, and is now the NDC 2020 parliamentary candidate for the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency in the Bono East region, the Atebubu Traditional Council says he still remains ostracised.

The Traditional Council, in April 2016, banned Mr Nanja, after he insulted the queen of the town, Nana Afia Donyina on radio, calling her a drunkard, after she accused him of being behind disturbances in the area.

But, during the NDC’s parliamentary primary, the former Member of Parliament for the area, secured 947 votes as against Peter Boadu Minkah’s 320 votes; 10 votes were rejected out of the total 1,267 valid votes cast.

But, Public Relations Officer of the Atebubu Traditional Council, Nana Boakye Yiadom, reacting to the latest development, said the chiefs have no intention of lifting the ban on him anytime soon.

According to Mr Yiadom, the Council decided not to lift the ban even as the election approaches and warned him not to file for nomination and could not fathom why he defied the orders of the chiefs and went ahead to win the elections.

“We have warned Sanja for so many times and he had three good years to make amends with our queen, but he failed to heed to that warning and went ahead to contest the elections which he has won. We don’t see him as a member of the town,” he told Accra based Neat FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.

Mr Yiadom urged the embattled parliamentary candidate not to bother contesting for the 2020 elections because he won’t be allowed.

“He should just allow the New Patriotic Party candidate to go unopposed in 2020 election because we don’t recognise him at all. He has disrespected our queen. He failed to apologise when he had the chance and so he should just distance himself from activities of the town,” he stated.
