Audio: It will be irresponsible to terminate PDS contract without fraud confirmation – Information Minister

-

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said it will be irresponsible for the government to terminate the Concession Agreement between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Power Distribution Services (PDS).

He said termination can only be possible after the full scale investigations have revealed that indeed PDS presented fraudulent documents to secure the deal.

The Minister was responding to comments by former Deputy Minister for Power, John Jinapor who blamed the government for the PDS saga.

He wants the government to, as a matter of urgency, terminate the contract and prosecute those behind the fraudulent guarantee.

Mr Jinapor, who is also Member of Parliament for Yapei/Kusawgu, called for a full refund of all monies appropriated by PDS through the “fraudulent scheme.”

However, the Information Minister said such allegations by the former Deputy Power Minister “are all premature assumptions.”

“It will be irresponsible for government to terminate the PDS contract without an inquiry,” he stated on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Friday.

He said there is “suspected fraud” in the whole PDS deal and the government intends to unravel the mystery and bring the culprits to book.

“For now we cannot conclude PDS perpetrated fraud. It is suspected fraud that is why government has begun an inquiry into the matter,” he added.
