Check out list of 13 Governing Councils of Colleges of Education sworn in amidst UEW impasse

-

The Ministry of Education has expressed worry about the vacuum that lack of Governing Council has created at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

This came to light when the Ministry inaugurated 13 Governing Councils for Colleges of Education.

The mandate of the Councils is to, among others, train students to acquire the necessary professional and academic competencies for teaching in pre-tertiary institutions and non-formal educational institutions and to build the professional and academic capacities of serving teachers through regular continuing education.

At a short swearing in ceremony, Minister of Education in-Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, said plans were far advanced to resolve the UEW feud which is affecting teaching and learning.

He, thus, charged the newly constituted councils for Colleges of Education to support the government in addressing challenges facing quality education.

The 13 Colleges of Education were Jasikan College of Education, Peki College of Education, E.P. College of Education, Presbyterian Women College of Education (Aburi), SDA College of Education (Asokore-Koforidua) and Accra College of Education.

The rest were the Presbyterian College of Education (Akropong), Ada College of Education, Komenda College of Education, Wiawso College of Education, St. Louis College of Education, Wesley College of Education and St. Monica’s College of Education.

Rev. Dr Cyril Ben-Smith, who represented the Governing Councils, assured government of their support.
