NDC primaries: Asiedu Nketia refutes claims of deliberate disqualification of aspirants (Audio)

-

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted claims by some party members of deliberate attempts by the party’s National Executives to allow some parliamentary candidates to contest unopposed.

“No executive can decide for a candidate to contest unopposed. It is the constitution of the party that defines what procedures and rules the party must follow,” he said.

To General Mosquito as he is popularly known in political circles, disqualification of a candidate for another to contest unopposed does not lie with the party’s National Executives but the constitution of the party.

Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com, General Mosquito blamed party members for playing a role in the unopposed status of the elections.

“The issue of unopposed aspirants comes up when party members decide to put all their eggs in one basket by presenting few people so if they want a fair competition for all, they must welcome more people into the race,” he urged.

“If one candidate is disqualified, the other person will contest unopposed because we cannot open another picking and filing of nomination forms,” he added.
