The Tamale high court presided over by His Worship Justice Richard Kogyapwah has sentenced three persons to 19 years in prison custody for possessing Indian hemp without lawful excuse.

Police report indicate three out of five suspects were arrested at a Savelugu in the Northern region by a police patrol team on Thursday morning around 11:00 am upon a tip off of transportation of huge quantity of substance suspected to be weed on from Gambaga in the North East region to Tamale.

The suspects identified as Fatawu Tiniya, 29, Masahudu Iddrisu, 20, and Zaku Mahama, 23 were jailed 19 years each for possessing narcotic substances without authority after they pleaded guilty to the offence.

The presiding judge also confiscated five motorbikes which the convicts used to convey the Indian hemp to the state.

Meanwhile, the police is undergoing investigations in the region to arrest the two suspects currently on the run.
