Kparekpare, a farming community in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region has banned the carrying of offensive weapons including knives in public.
Nana Atta Foster Owusu III, Chief of KpareKpare said the decision was to discourage communal fights and promote peace in the area.
He said weeks ago a committee sensitised Fulanis and other indigenes on the increasing use of offensive weapons in the area, where an agreement was reached to ban the carrying knives, club weapon and other offensive implements in public.
Nana Owusu said the free movement of such implements even at funerals and markets was causing fear and panic to many, especially businesswomen and urged other communities to ban them.
He warned that anyone caught carrying such items in an offensive manner would be sanctioned.
A document on the ban, which gives power to established committee members to search suspects and arrest them was signed and thumb printed by community leaders with copies sent to the Oti Regional Minister, the Krachi East Municipal Chief Executive and the Bureau of National Investigation.
Alhaji Issah Zraki of KpareKpare Zongo assured that all Zongo dwellers and Fulanis would go by the by-law for peace to prevail in the area.
