The First Lady, Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo, has made another set of donation of hospital equipment, to some needy health institutions across the country.
The donations, which were made through the Rebecca Foundation, of which Mrs Akufo-Addo is the Executive Director, went to 14 municipal, district assemblies, constituencies and hospitals.
They included the Tolon District Assembly, Builsa North, Nanton, Damongo, Techiman, Fantiakwa North, Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly, Akyim Swedru and Obuasi West, Tano North, Akatsi South, Sekondi and the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw.
The items donated included 3D Ultra sound machines, incubators, examination beds, divider screens, washing machines, rollators, operating lamps, refrigerators and thermo scientific ovens.
Mrs Akosua Newman, the Directors of Operations at the Office of the First Lady, who made the donation on behalf of Mrs Akufo-Addo, said the Rebecca Foundation is determined to work towards their set objective of contributing to making health care accessible and affordable to Ghanaians wherever they were.
She said while the Foundation recognises the effort being made by the government to re-equip the country’s health facilities with ultra-modern hospital equipment and ambulances, it is imperative for corporate institutions and benevolent individuals to also contribute their quota by identifying such needy health institutions, especially those in remote areas and support them, even before government gets there.
“We all have relatives in remote parts of the country who may require some health assistance not available there but are readily available in the big cities. It is our responsibility to support them with what we have to save a family member’s life tomorrow,” she said.
Mrs Newman gave the assurance of the continuous work by the First Lady and the Rebecca Foundation to identify the vulnerable in society and work hard to assist in diverse ways.
Mr Egyapa Mercer, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sekondi Constituency, on behalf of the other beneficiary institutions, thanked the First Lady and the Rebecca Foundation for the generosity.
He said although they have been hearing and reading in the news of the good works of the Rebecca Foundation in bringing comfort to the people, they least expected to be called soon to be beneficiaries and so were overjoyed when they received the invitation to come over to receive the equipment.
He assured the Office of the First Lady and the Rebecca Foundation of ensuring that the equipment would be put to good use for the full benefit of all involved.
Other government officials present to receive donations on behalf of their constituencies were Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the MP for Swedru and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Ms Freda Prempeh, the MP for Tano North and Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs Amankwa Asiamah and the MP for Fanteakwa North, and Mr Mohammed Tufeiru Hardi, MP for Nantong.
It would be recalled that in June, Mrs Akufo-Addo through the Rebecca Foundation made similar donations of hospital equipment including ambulances to some selected municipalities and health facilities across the country.
