Police probe Maamobi kidnapping incident

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a kidnapping incident around the Maamobi Polyclinic in Accra.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police, ASP Afia Tenge, the suspect was beaten by the mob but received medical attention after he was rescued.

He was taken to the police station after another resident succeeded in rescuing him.

The suspect, believed to be a Nigerian, was on Sunday arrested for attempting to kidnap a boy around the Maamobi Polyclinic.

The suspect, yet-to-be named, was arrested after a witness raised an alarm while he was in the process of luring the four-year-old boy into a waiting vehicle with three other suspects in it.

When he was made out, the suspect reportedly ran into a nearby house and changed his clothing but his cover was blown after residents in the house gave him up. The others in the car sped off.

ASP Tenge said statements have been taken from the complainants.

She advised Ghanaians to desist from using the word kidnap and appropriately use the word stealing since they are yet to establish the real intent behind the incident.

ASP Tenge said the case is under investigations and any update would be shared with the public including the nationality of the suspect.
