The John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library, inaugurated in July 2016 by former President John Dramani Mahama in Cape Coast in the Central region, remains under lock and key and has been left to rot.
The Presidential Library was built as a memorial and digital research centre, with a 100-capacity auditorium, a forty-five-seater multimedia unit, seminar rooms and a museum meant for works and historical materials on the late President.
A visit to the library site by Adom News’ Justice Kafui revealed that the gates of the facility was rusty and remained shut though there was a security man guarding the place.

However, commenting on the state of the facility on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Koku Anyidoho, who stated he had no real answers as to why the facility is being left to rot, described the situation as sad and unfortunate.
“This is a presidential library that was built in Cape Coast to help us tell the story of our great President who died while still in office, but looking at the state of the facility, I don’t know if this is how we want to honour such a great man,” he bemoaned.

“His Asomdwe Park is also now disgraceful though the master plan was to make it a real state monument like the Kwame Nkrumah Museum.
“In this 7th year after his death, we will resurrect him and nobody will stop us from eulogising him, if Ghana will not do it, we believe in due time God will give us the funds to give the monuments the befitting look they deserve,” he said with hope.
The digital library, during its inauguration, was announced to be under the management of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cape Coast.
