The Defence Ministry, together with the Military High Command and other security agencies have unveiled a monument in honour of the late Major Maxwell Mahama.

The Wednesday afternoon ceremony which coincided with a downpour of rain as fate will have it, perhaps reminding the nations of the tears that characterized the gallant soldiers’ fall.

Standing with a shotgun by the side pocket of his military fatigue uniform, the statue of the Major had his right-hand in a free position as he raised his left to signify a person warding off an attack or danger.

The ceremony which took place at Airport Hills in Accra, had the late major’s wife, his son, other family members as well as members of the military and other services attending.

The ceremony coincided with two years of the gruesome murder of the soldier at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region. Major Mahama was on a national assignment as a leader of a military detachment team to combat galamsey in the area.

Addressing participants at the ceremony, the Defence Minister, urged Ghanaians to desist from taking laws into their own hands when they come across suspected criminals.

“The unveiling of this monument is a signal and reminder to the end of instant justice in Ghana,” he said.
