A legal practitioner, Dr Maurice Ampaw has called on the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and other law enforcement agencies to introduce domestic violence taskforce to combat domestic cases.

The legal practitioner, who was speaking on Adom TV’s legal show ‘Me Wo Case Anaa’, said domestic violence cases are on the rise and it’s about time they are dealt with.

Dr Ampaw said the taskforce will go into homes to educate the public about the law, arrest married couples or people who flout the law and also counsel them in order to perfect marriages.

He also added that the government should resource the DOVVSU and other law enforcement agencies to facilitate domestic cases quickly. He believes the lack of adequate resources is affecting the Unit.

On his part, legal practitioner, Paul Attitsogbui called on women who are being abused domestically at home to report cases to any law enforcement agency for solution.

He said many a time people fear to lose their marriages and it is causing increases in abuses in homes.

The legal practitioner also called on religious leaders to stop involving themselves in abuse cases so that the law could be enforced.

He said involving themselves in such cases rather empowers the abusers to mistreat others the more.
