National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr Bernard Mornah has described the meeting between the National Democratic congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the disbandment of vigilante groups as unnecessary and a total waste of time.

To Mr Mornah, the solution to vigilantism or Party Militia in Ghana is for politicians to stop meddling in the affairs of the security agencies and allow the law to work.
“This meeting between
the NDC and NPP is unnecessary and a total waste of time and State resources. Laws
are made for the generality of society not for a group of people. So if the NPP
and NDC are seen to be committing crimes in our society they should be dealt
with according to the law,” he stated.
He said it was time laws are made to work in the country and not the unnecessary discussions which would not yield any result.

“To ask the NPP and
NDC, who a committing these heinous crimes, to sit down and discuss whether
their crimes are criminal or not is unthinkable. If the people in the NPP are
causing crimes and committing violent offences to innocent citizens then deal
with them according to the law, empower the State agencies to tackle the issue
from the root,” he stated.
Mr Mornah added on Joy News’ AM Show, monitored by Adomonline, that the two political parties will discuss the need to end vigilantism and still practice it if the laws don’t work.
“I have said this from
day one that there was no need to bring political parties to speak over this
matter of vigilantism, particularly when the police has told us that when there
is a governing party and their members commit crimes it is difficult for the State
institution, particularly the police to deal with them,” he noted.
