The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has described the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu as a blessing to Ghana as he celebrates his centenary birthday.

“The centenary birthday is an extraordinary celebration in the sense that in most situations, you find centenarians in bad health, lose their senses, bedridden and completely incapacitated but with he (Chief Imam), he is very fit at 100 and walks by himself,” he stated.

Speaking at a public lecture in honour of the Chief Imam at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, Dr Bawumia urged Ghanaians to hold him in high esteem for his immense contribution to the development of Ghana.

“For Sheikh Sharubutu, Allah has bestowed a special rare blessing unto him and even in his advanced stage; I am surprised he is healthy, got good memory, good eyesight and hearing. This is indeed a special blessing from the almighty Allah and as we gather to celebrate an icon, let us give thanks to God for such a blessing he has given to Ghana,” he said.

To Dr Bawumia, it is important for Ghanaians to learn from the exemplary life of the National Chief Imam as the Sheikh continues to champion dialogue between Muslims and Christians in Ghana.
